Choosing the Right Custom Auto Paint Job for Your Ride

Choosing the Right Custom Auto Paint Job for Your Ride

When it comes to the appearance of your car, its paint job is one of its most distinguishing features, so you want to make sure that it looks its best. These days, there are so many options for you to choose from that it can often be difficult to decide which style of custom auto paint is the going to give you the right look. Read on for everything you need to know when deciding on your style.

Solid

This is by far the most common and least expensive option. It typically involves applying a single coat of paint in a basic color, followed by a clear coat of sealant. Some modern variations can be applied with just a single layer. Solid paint is also the easiest to maintain, but your color choices will likely be limited to basic standbys like white, black, red and blue. You can often repair chips and scratches yourself with cheap auto paint pens when you have this type of paint job.

Metallic or Pearlescent

Metallic and pearlescent paints are applied in a single layer like solid ones, but they incorporate metallic or pearl elements to give the paint extra shimmer and luster. This makes them a bit more challenging and costly to maintain, but the visual effect is well worth it. With these types of paint, it is typically better to leave the repair to the professionals at an auto body shop to maintain the look of your paint job.

Matte

The matte paint finish evokes the look of classic hot rods and it has been growing in popularity for high-end, luxury vehicles. However, this type of paint is one of the most difficult to maintain. If the paint is not polished and buffed properly, you could wind up with glossy patches on your car, which is not exactly the look you were going for.

Fade and Ghost Effects

Fade and ghost effects involve the layering of two different paint colors to create unique visual effects. In a fade, one color is used for one end of the vehicle and another color is used for the other, like front and back or top and bottom. The two colors are then blended in the center of the car to create a seamless transition between the two, resulting in an ombre effect. Pearl paint is layered over a solid-colored paint to create the ghost effect, giving the car a unique sheen under the light.

Custom Designs

With custom auto paint jobs, you can achieve virtually any design you have in mind. Whether you are into racing stripes, life-like flames or tattoo-inspired artwork, you are sure to be able to find an artist who can make your dream onto your ride.
